A brief description of the difference between Counselling and Life Coaching

People who seek Counselling have normally identified one or a number of issues which are causing them problems in their normal day-to-day lives, causing some kind of disturbance or distress for which they are seeking resolution and/or healing.

People engaging in Life Coaching on the other hand are not so much seeking resolution to problems, but rather looking for coaching and accountability, and ideas for growth, change and development in their personal and professional lives.

In both Counselling and Coaching, Mike utilises a Strengths and Solution Focussed approach which helps to identify and utilise the clients’ present areas of competency (things going well) to assist with bringing about desired changes.

Mike also uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in his practice; a brief intervention which focuses on the relationship between behaviour and beliefs/thinking. The strategies and techniques employed assist clients to address problematic or unhelpful thinking and replace this with constructive new thoughts/beliefs and new behaviours.
