Member (retired) of both MNZAC and ANZASW, Current Registered Social Worker (no.13922)

Mike has over four decades of experience working in both the public and private sector as a Counsellor, Personal Coach, Professional Supervisor, Social Work Consultant, Educator and Trainer. He partially retired from practice in mid-2024.

He continues in his practice as a Professional (Clinical) Supervisor and Trainer of other helping professionals and would welcome any enquiries from prospective clients in these fields.

Mike holds a Masters Degree in Applied Social Work, a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma in Teaching He and a Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW). He is a retired member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) and the Aotearoa/New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW). Mike holds current registration as a Social Worker (no. 13922)

He has previously worked as a School Teacher, Probation Officer, Social Worker, Senior Counsellor in DSW Specialist Services and Regional Trainer in Child, Youth and Family Services (now Oranga Tamariki) and Lecturer in Social and Community Work at Massey University, Palmerston North. Mike was instrumental in setting up a Masters (Applied) degree programme on that Campus and taught in and coordinated it for six years.

He has previously undertaken consultancies both nationally and internationally, in the Fiji Islands and for 23 years continuously from the early 1990's in Singapore where he contracted to their national Social Services Training Institute (SSTI). His consultancy work in New Zealand has seen him deliver training and other consultancy services to Government agencies such as the Children and Young Persons and their Families Service (now OT), Ministry of Social Development, The Department of Corrections, NZ Police and the Ministry of Health/Te Whatu Ora.

During his decades of clinical practice Mike was approved as a Counsellor by ACC (holding a supplier Contract under Sensitive Claims), NZCYFS (now Oranga Tamariki), the Family Court, The Ministry of Health (MOH), Work and Income (WINZ) and the Employment Assistance Programme (EAP). He is married with two adult sons and enjoys life moving between beach and city locations in the lower North Island of New Zealand.
